What is the first hour route after Harros?

The Mortal Shell II walkthrough starts when you leave Harros, not when you pick a “chapter 1” from a fake list. Harros is a tutorial husk. If you logged enough Open Beta hours, the prologue is skippable. Play it if you have not: it hides one missable achievement (trophy name TBA). Either way, walk into Marrow Keep. Opening chores — Seal, first host, first Glimpse spend — are on the beginner guide. This page only needs the order that gets you to a cleanse.

First-hour path after Harros — bridge toward the water makeshift Beacon

Marrow Keep is the hub, not a second town

The Shell Keeper sits in Marrow Keep. That is the register. Do not invent a second hub with a different name. Talk to them, take coordinates for one or two early shells, and stop. Glimpse purchases can buy more location hints. Spending the early budget on maxing the hint catalog leaves you with a map and no host. Possess first, then buy the next pin if you are stuck.

Left path: trial, vent, one Seal

From the Keep, the left path is Sester Genessa’s combat trial. Complete it for Infinite Seal (Parry). A vent on that walk is the opening smith pickup for starting Iconoclast. You equip one Seal: Infinite (Parry), Untarnished (Guard / Perfect Guard), or Vatra (Harden / Perfect Harden). A fourth Seal sits nearby. It is easy mode. It disables achievements. Leave it for a second cycle. Seal timing lives on combat; this route only needs you wearing one before you wander.

Three talks, then walk

Franz is the Tarforge. Merrick is maps and flask stock. Talk to both before the long walk. Merrick’s first useful hand-off is a map toward the Forgotten Crossbow — that crypt is a later stop on this same first-region road, not a reason to skip the first Beacon. Once those three talks are done, the next lock is which corrupted Beacon you actually cleanse.

Which Beacon should I cleanse first?

Always cleanse the corrupted beacon you can survive. The first-region pin this Mortal Shell II walkthrough trusts is Village Outskirts. Cleanse it, take Ova to Marrow Keep, and do not treat the rest as optional scenery. A cleanse also yields Glimpses, stronger flasks, rest, and fast travel (Mether’s Pulse / Breath). Some gates stay locked until you cleanse the Beacon sitting outside them — that is how this compact world actually opens, not a hidden key item you invent.

After this cleanseWhy it is on the route
OvaCarry it to Marrow Keep — story beat, not floor loot
GlimpsesFeed one Shell’s lines; do not buy every Shell Keeper hint first
Muradean ActuatorVillage Outskirts drop — Franz’s main-weapon enhance key (aliases Moradian / Meridian)
FlasksMother’s Pulse gets stronger as you cleanse; Merrick sells charge / heal upgrades later
Rest / travelUnlocked after cleanse — this is the “you can route” checkpoint
Nearby gateSome doors open only after the Beacon outside is cleansed
EnemiesRespawn on rest — a new Beacon is a reset, not an AFK camp
  • Do01Finish or skip Harros — grab the prologue missable if you care about trophies
  • Do02Talk to the Shell Keeper in Marrow Keep; buy at most one or two Shell-location hints
  • Do03Left path: pick up the vent, finish Sester Genessa’s trial, equip Infinite / Untarnished / Vatra — leave the fourth Seal alone
  • Do04Talk to Franz and Merrick before you leave the Keep
  • Do05Cleanse Village Outskirts first; take Ova home; loot the Muradean Actuator (Moradian / Meridian)
  • Do06Hand the actuator to Franz; spend laterite, ventrium, and coin on Iconoclast
  • Do07Open the left blocked path, rest at the water Beacon, possess Proxima
  • Do08Cleanse every Beacon you touch on the walk to Widow’s Overlook
  • Do09Optional: Great Arbiter of Flesh near that overlook — Arbiter’s Prize
  • Do10Merrick map → Forgotten Crossbow in the Flooded Village crypt after the key
  • Do11If you find Duality plus a dual-wield melee, slot them; Grisha summon is an early spike, then builds

Village Outskirts before the overlook

Do not skip Village Outskirts because Widow’s Overlook looks like the “real” landmark. The outskirts cleanse is the first Ova plus the actuator. Widow’s Overlook is the later rest on this same first-region walk — Proxima’s water Beacon sits on the left blocked path between them. If a gate will not open, look for a corrupted Beacon on the outside of it before you hunt a fake dungeon name.

Cleanse is the mechanic page, order is this page

Interior challenge, corruption, and travel rules live on beacons. This Mortal Shell II walkthrough only sequences the first-region stops. Once Ova is in the Keep, the next question is whether Franz will actually enhance the blade you are swinging.

After the first cleanse

Matched by build plan, shared topics, and guide progression — not random related links.

When do I unlock Franz’s weapon upgrades?

Franz runs the Tarforge in Marrow Keep. Two early facts can both be true, and this page will not pretend they are the same click. Community route: the first cleansed Beacon — Village Outskirts — drops a Muradean Actuator (captions also say Moradian or Meridian). Hand that to Franz to unlock main-weapon enhance. A separate early walk also spends a vent on Iconoclast and gets levels before that unlock looks “on.” Treat vent smithing as partial and the actuator as the unlock. If your build cannot enhance until the actuator lands, that is the gate. If Iconoclast already took a vent rank, keep spending — do not wait for a second desk. Exact “when the menu lights up” stays TBA if those two reads conflict.

Village Outskirts Beacon / Muradean Actuator for Franz’s Tarforge
Spend / itemFirst-region rule
Muradean ActuatorVillage Outskirts cleanse — give to Franz to unlock main-weapon enhance (Moradian / Meridian)
Early ventLeft-path pickup — can raise Iconoclast before the actuator; treat as partial smithing, not a second hub
LateriteEnhance material — spend on the melee you are swinging
VentriumEnhance material — same desk, not a sidearm dump
CoinFranz and Merrick both take it; do not bankrupt the flask tab
IconoclastOpening melee — push it while you walk this route; later finds often start around +3 (community-observed)
SidearmsNot the first Franz click — Nail Shot is a Resolve tap

Unlock versus already-smithing

If Franz will not enhance until the actuator is in his hand, that is the Village Outskirts job. If he already accepted a vent on Iconoclast, you are in the partial-smithing read — keep the same blade. Do not invent a second Tarforge. Do not park every laterite for a “better” melee you have not found; weapons is the roster, this page is the unlock moment.

The desk is not the flask

Franz upgrades steel. Merrick upgrades how many times you can drink. Mixing those two NPCs is how a first region feels broke. Once the actuator is handed in, the next habit is Mother’s Pulse — three charges, refill on rest, and a shop that sometimes refuses to open.

How do I use Mother’s Pulse and Merrick?

Mother’s Pulse is the heal flask on this Mortal Shell II walkthrough. Default 3 charges. It refills when you rest at a cleansed beacon and when you die. It gets stronger as you cleanse. Merrick sits in Marrow Keep: weapon maps, and later a rare tab for flask parts. He is not Franz. If his shop is still closed or he keeps stalling — the “let’s get down to business” loop — progress another Beacon, then return. Do not stand in the Keep waiting for a stock refresh that is gated on route.

Cleanse bonusFlasks get stronger as you cleanse Beacons
Revered glandMore charges — buy one from Merrick’s rare tab when the shop works
Synaptic vesselStronger heals — buy one from the same rare tab
Forgotten Crossbow mapMerrick’s early map — Flooded Village crypt after a key
Other weapon mapsBuy when you have coin and a next room, not before Iconoclast can enhance
Shop still closedProgress more of this first-region route, then come back

Buy one gland, one vessel — then leave

When the rare tab is actually selling, buy one Revered gland and one synaptic vessel. That is the first-region flask finish: more drinks, stronger drinks. Do not empty the coin pile on a third copy while Village Outskirts Ova is still in your pocket. Maps from Merrick are routing tools; the Forgotten Crossbow is the one this page will walk to after Widow’s Overlook.

Rest is the refill, death is the backup

Sit at a cleansed Beacon to refill Mother’s Pulse. Dying also refills it — that is not a reason to suicide for charges when a rest is ten seconds away. Enemies come back when you rest. Cleanse first, drink second. Once three charges feel automatic, the world past Widow’s Overlook is the rest of this first-region road — still not a platinum dump.

Where does the world open after Widow’s Overlook?

Widow’s Overlook is the first-region rest this Mortal Shell II walkthrough treats as the hinge — not the end of the game. From Marrow Keep, the previously blocked left path and the water Beacon are how you possess Proxima. Cleanse on the way. From the overlook the compact world branches: more Beacons, optional steel, one optional named fight, and a later woods landmark. From here the world opens — use the beacons, bosses, and shells pages. There is no 40-hour chapter table on this page.

Proxima, then stop splitting Glimpses

Proxima is the first-region host this route can actually walk to. Possess her at the water Beacon, then keep Glimpses on the Shell you fight in. The Shell Keeper will still sell hints. Buy the next hint only if you are lost. The eight-host roster and memory spend live on shells.

Resolve branches are puzzles, not side quests

A Resolve statue or effigy you can smash is a refill. In a closed room it often marks a sidearm puzzle — shoot, lute, or another spend to open the space. Fill the meter, solve the room, leave. Panic-dumping Nail Shot on the next trash pack wastes the same bar combat told you to bank.

Early spike, then the other pages

Duality plus a dual-wield melee is an early attack-count spike — community-observed; exact multiplier TBA. The Forgotten Crossbow in the Flooded Village crypt is the early gun that is worth the key. A Grisha summon item (alias Gishca in some writeups — this page uses Grisha) is a large-target flinch, then you stop theorycrafting it here and open builds.

Optional Arbiter, later Magdalena — not a chapter list

Great Arbiter of Flesh sits near Widow’s Overlook. It is optional-ish on this route and still worth the walk: Harden exam, Arbiter’s Prize. Magdalena, the Lady of the Woods is later. The landmark is an Etching Needle chest immediately before her arena. Loot it on the way in. Move lists and HP stay off this page — bosses is the named-fight sheet.

From here the world opens. Keep cleansing beacons, take named fights on bosses, and unlock the rest of the shells. This Mortal Shell II walkthrough will not invent a 40-hour chapter list to fill the rest of the map.

FAQ

Where does the Mortal Shell II walkthrough start?

After the Harros prologue — skippable if you have enough beta hours. Walk to Marrow Keep, talk to the Shell Keeper, Franz, and Merrick, then cleanse the first Beacon. Opening chores are on the beginner guide.

Does this Mortal Shell II walkthrough list every dungeon or a 40-hour chapter route?

No. This page is the first-region Beacon route. There is no fake chapter list. After Widow’s Overlook, use the beacons, bosses, and shells pages.

Which Beacon should I cleanse first in Mortal Shell II?

Village Outskirts. Take Ova to Marrow Keep and loot the Muradean Actuator (also called Moradian / Meridian). Always cleanse Beacons you can survive — some gates open only after the Beacon outside is cleansed.

When do I unlock Franz’s weapon upgrades?

Hand Franz the Muradean Actuator from the first cleansed Beacon to unlock main-weapon enhance. An early vent can already raise Iconoclast — treat that as partial smithing. If those two reads conflict on your save, the exact menu gate stays TBA.

What materials does Franz use?

Laterite, ventrium, and coin on the melee you are swinging. Do not dump the first pile into a panic sidearm.

How does Mother’s Pulse work?

It is the heal flask. Default 3 charges. Refills on rest at a cleansed Beacon and on death. Cleansing makes flasks stronger. Buy one Revered gland (more charges) and one synaptic vessel (stronger heals) from Merrick’s rare tab when the shop is open.

Why won’t Merrick “get down to business”?

The shop is gated on route. Progress another Beacon on this first-region walk, then return. Do not wait in the Keep for a refresh that is not on a timer.

Who is the Shell Keeper in Mortal Shell II?

The Marrow Keep NPC who switches Shells and sells location hints. One hub, not a second town. Spend early Glimpses on finding one or two hosts, not on maxing the hint list.

Can I skip the Harros prologue?

Yes, if you logged enough Open Beta hours. The prologue still hides one missable achievement (name TBA). Harros is not one of the eight playable Shells.

What does the fourth Seal do?

It is easy mode and it disables achievements. Leave it for a second cycle. Wear Infinite, Untarnished, or Vatra on a trophy run.

Where do I find Proxima on this walkthrough?

Take the left blocked path from Marrow Keep, rest at the water Beacon, and possess her there. Then walk toward Widow’s Overlook.

Should I fight Great Arbiter of Flesh early?

Yes if you want the Harden exam and Arbiter’s Prize. It sits near Widow’s Overlook and is optional on this route. Full tell sheet is on the bosses page.

Where is the Forgotten Crossbow?

Merrick’s map points at a Flooded Village crypt after a key. It is an early sidearm on this first-region road, not a Keep shop buy.

Do I need Mortal Shell 1 for this walkthrough?

No. Mortal Shell II is standalone. Single-player only — there is no co-op route.
