Which mistakes waste Resolve?

Resolve is one meter. Shell abilities, melee skills on weapons, and every sidearm shot tap it. These Mortal Shell II tips do not retell how to fill the bar — combat already does. They name the spends that empty it before the break.

Mortal Shell II HUD — Resolve bar and Seal tell in a live fight
MistakeDo this insteadWhy it hurts
Panic-dump Nail Shot (or any gun)Bank the bar; poke only to finish a stagger or a closed-room branchThe next Shell ability and melee skill are dry when the boss opens
Ignore a smashable Resolve statue in a closed roomSmash, fill, then shoot or lute the branchYou leave a key / gun / lute track locked and dump the same meter on trash outside
Guard a red attackDodge. Confirm Harden-on-red later — community: reds are unblockableYou eat the hit, lose the string, and often dump Resolve trying to recover
Treat Untarnished as an animation cancelRide the Light / Heavy, or do not swing. Swap to Infinite / Vatra if you need a mid-swing abortThe Guard never comes out. The swing owns the frames. You die mid-R2
Slot an 80-Resolve Ability, then panic-fire the gunEmpty Ability holes beat a stone you cannot pay. Unwieldy at 35 is the early capTarblighted Trophy and Nail Shot compete for the same empty bar

The gun is never a free magazine

There is no stamina bar and this page will not invent an ammo reserve. A dry Resolve bar is an empty spend, not a “tired” animation. One or two shots after melee — the sidearms Perforation habit — is the legal poke. Emptying Nail Shot because the camera is ugly steals Biosampler, Shadow Strike, and the Great Martyr’s Blade skill in the same breath.

A closed room with a smashable statue is frequently a gun puzzle. Fill the meter in the room. If you already dumped Nail Shot on the approach pack, the branch stays shut and you walk a second lap for a refill you already spent.

Reds and Untarnished are the same death, two tells

A red wind-up is a dodge. Untarnished Hold Guard and Perfect Guard are for uncolored swings. Community read: reds are unblockable. Whether Vatra Harden also fails stays TBA — do not bank a first-cycle plan on absorbing a red. Infinite Parry is the same warning if that read holds.

Untarnished cannot animation-cancel. Infinite and Vatra can abort a swing into Parry or Harden. Planning “R2 into Guard” on Untarnished is how you eat a grab you already saw. Swap Seals at a beacon, not mid-string. Trophy-safe Seals only — the fourth nearby Seal is the next section.

Which mistakes lock trophies?

A Mortal Shell II tips death you can retry is cheap. A first-cycle Seal that turns every achievement off is not. PlayStation lists 53 trophies; Steam lists 52. The platinum clock on achievements is a 40–60h estimate. These three habits lock counters before that sheet is even open.

MistakeDo this insteadWhy it hurts
Equip the fourth easy Seal near Marrow Keep on NGWear Infinite, Untarnished, or Vatra. Leave the fourth for NG+ / a second cycleIt disables achievements for the cycle. Name TBA (Slayer / Gloomslayer aliases)
Count Harros as a ninth playable Shell — or skip the prologue and still want every trophyLeave Harros. Count eight on shells. Play the prologue if you care about the missable (name TBA)You plan a Glimpse tree that does not exist, and you can miss the one Harros trophy
Skip a corrupted Beacon, or pocket Ova and never walk homeCleanse when you can survive the interior. Carry Ova to Marrow Keep the same loopCleanse All Beacons and Collect all Ova both start with this habit — plus the gate that only opens after the stone outside is purified

The easy Seal is not a secret upgrade

You equip one Seal. The opening kit is Infinite (Parry), Untarnished (Guard / Perfect Guard), or Vatra (Harden / Perfect Harden). A fourth Seal sits near Marrow Keep. It is easy mode. It disables achievements. Leave it until NG+ or a second cycle. If a first-run death feels unfair, swap among the three legal Seals at a rest — do not “fix” it by turning the trophy list off.

Harros is a missable, not a keep

Harros is the prologue husk. Enough Open Beta hours can skip him. The eight you keep are Tiel, Proxima, Eredrim, Gragu, Smert, Sester Genessa, Lazlo, and Sariel. He is not a ninth shell. The prologue still hides one missable achievement (name TBA). If you already skipped and you want a full achievements list, that row may already be gone — do not invent a ninth Glimpse tree to “catch up.”

Ova and cleanse are the collect pair

Collect all Ova and Cleanse All Beacons are habits, not a pin list. Exact Ova counts stay TBA. Walking past a corrupted site to “save time” skips both counters, the flask bump, and sometimes the only key for the door next to it. Take Ova home. Trophy locks are the cheap Seal and the skipped cleanse; the next wastes are the hour sinks — thin Glimpses, mid-clear rests, bag stones.

Which exploration habits cost hours?

These Mortal Shell II tips are the hour sinks: a thin roster, a room you already cleared, stones that never rank, and a dual-wield kit that never got its stone. The walkthrough sequences first-region pins. This table only names what wastes the walk.

Beacon cleanse / Glimpse payoff after a purify, not a load plate
MistakeDo this insteadWhy it hurts
Spread Glimpses across all eight ShellsFinish four lines on one host (~27 Glimpses, community-observed). Leave the rest thinEvery kit is a costume. A full max roster typically waits for NG+
Max the Shell Keeper’s location hints before you own a hostBuy one or two early pins, possess, then buy the next hint only if you are lostYou spend the Glimpse budget on a map and still have no kit
Walk past a corrupted Beacon to chase a prettier landmarkCleanse first. Village Outskirts before Widow’s OverlookYou skip rest, travel, flask strength, Glimpses, Ova, and the outside-gate unlock
Sit at a Beacon mid-clear “for a sip”Push if the pack is down and the flask can cover the next door. Sit when the room is finished — or when you want that pack backRest respawns nearby enemies. The sip rebuilds the sip’s problem
Leave Tarstones in the bag so they “stay safe”Wear the ten you want ranked (4 Support + 2 Combat + 2 Infusion + 2 Ability). Bag stones earn no XPFranz has nothing to etch. You farmed the wrong ten
Dual-wield without Duality (optional)Slot Duality on Axe and Dagger / Axatana. Skip Duality on a spear or hammerYou swing a dual kit without the Combat stone that doubles those attacks (multiplier TBA)

Glimpses stick; weapons do not

You can respec melee on weapons more freely than Shell talent spend. Spreading Glimpses across Tiel, Proxima, and whoever the Shell Keeper just sold is how a first region ends with three stubs and no four-line kit. Park the budget on the host you actually fight in — Tiel or Proxima around Widow’s Overlook unless the Warden already forced Eredrim. Pair the host on builds; this page only needs you to stop watering the roster.

The sit is a reset, not a flask shop

Resting at a cleansed beacon heals, refills Mother’s Pulse, and brings the nearby pack back. Death also refills the flask. That is why a mid-clear sit is the expensive choice: you spent the reset without finishing the room. Sit when the room is done, when you need a Shell or Seal swap, or when you are farming the approach on purpose.

Wear the ten, then Duality only if the kit is real

About 75 tarstones exist. Max ten equipped. Unequipped stones gain nothing from kills. Empty Infusion / Ability holes are legal. Duality is a Combat stone for dual-wield melee — community-observed doubling of those attacks; do not quote a fake percent. If you stayed on Iconoclast, Parasitic sustain beats a Duality you cannot use. The stone does not replace a Beacon cleanse; pick it up after the purify. Once the walk is clean, the same items still fail if you never hand them to Franz and Merrick — that is the Keep loop.

What should I do every time I return to Marrow Keep?

The Keep is three desks, not a second town. Shell Keeper, Franz (Tarforge), Merrick (maps and flask parts). These Mortal Shell II tips are the same-visit chores. Skip one and you commute twice for an item you already carried.

DeskHand this / buy thisWhy skipping hurts
Ova returnThe clutch from the last purifyStory beat + Collect all Ova stay parked in your pocket
Franz — actuatorMuradean Actuator (Village Outskirts)Main-weapon enhance stays locked while you farm laterite into a dead menu
Franz — needleEtching Needle (pre-Magdalena bone chest)Tarstone ranks stay locked. Equipped XP sits unspent
Franz — steelLaterite / ventrium / coin on the live meleeA +0 panic sidearm does not fix a dry Resolve bar
Merrick — mapsForgotten Crossbow first, then the next room’s mapYou walk Flooded Village blind and skip Old School
Merrick — flasksOne Revered gland + one synaptic vessel when the rare tab sellsMother’s Pulse stays three weak charges while cleanses already wanted a stronger drink
Shell KeeperGlimpses into one host’s four linesHint catalog with no kit — same Glimpse waste as the exploration table
  • Do01Turn in Ova from the last cleanse before you start a second region
  • Do02Hand Franz the Muradean Actuator from Village Outskirts (Moradian / Meridian — spelling TBA) so main-weapon enhance unlocks
  • Do03Hand Franz every Etching Needle you looted — first community pin is the bone chest immediately before Magdalena, Lady of the Woods
  • Do04Wear the ten Tarstones you want ranked before you ask Franz to etch; bag stones still have no XP
  • Do05Spend laterite / ventrium / coin on the melee you are swinging — Iconoclast toward +3 / +4 — not on Nail Shot
  • Do06Talk to Merrick: take the Forgotten Crossbow map, then other weapon maps when you have a next room
  • Do07When his rare tab is actually open, buy one Revered gland and one synaptic vessel — then leave
  • Do08If Merrick stalls (“let’s get down to business”), progress another Beacon and come back — the shop is route-gated, not a timer
  • Do09Spend Glimpses on the Shell you fight in at the Shell Keeper — not on maxing every location hint
  • Do10Confirm you are still wearing Infinite, Untarnished, or Vatra — not the achievement-disabling fourth Seal

Franz is two key items, not one vibe

The Muradean Actuator unlocks main-weapon enhance. An early left-path vent can already raise Iconoclast — treat that as partial smithing, not a second desk. If those two reads conflict on your save, the exact menu gate stays TBA. The Etching Needle is a different handoff: tarstones do not etch until Franz has it. Do not hold the first needle “for a better stone.” Wear the ten, then spend.

Merrick is not Franz

Franz upgrades steel and stones. Merrick sells maps and, later, flask parts. Mixing the two is how a first region feels broke: Iconoclast is +4 and Mother’s Pulse is still three default charges. Buy the Forgotten Crossbow map on the first talk. Walk the Flooded Village crypt after the key when that stop is on the walkthrough — sidearms owns the gun. When the rare tab opens, one gland and one vessel is the flask finish. Do not empty coin on a third copy while Ova is still in the bag.

Once the four Keep chores are automatic — Ova, Franz keys, Merrick stock, one Glimpse sink — leftover questions are the FAQ. Then stop rereading this list and open the system page you actually failed.

FAQ

What are the most important Mortal Shell II tips?

Do not dump Resolve into panic sidearm shots. Do not equip the fourth easy Seal on a first cycle. Do not count Harros as a ninth Shell. Cleanse Beacons, take Ova home, wear ten Tarstones, and hand Franz the actuator and Etching Needle on the same Keep visit.

Which Mortal Shell II tips mistakes waste Resolve?

Panic Nail Shot dumps, ignoring a Resolve statue in a closed room, guarding red attacks, and treating Untarnished as if it can abort a swing into Guard. Infinite and Vatra can cancel; Untarnished cannot.

Is Harros a ninth Mortal Shell II Shell?

No. Harros is prologue only. The eight playable hosts are Tiel, Proxima, Eredrim, Gragu, Smert, Sester Genessa, Lazlo, and Sariel. The prologue hides one missable achievement (name TBA).

Should I spread Glimpses across all eight Mortal Shell II shells?

No. About 27 Glimpses finish four talent lines on one Shell (community-observed). A full max roster typically needs NG+. Possess freely; spend on one, maybe two, hosts.

Does the easy Seal in Mortal Shell II disable achievements?

Yes. The fourth Seal near Marrow Keep is easy mode and it disables achievements on that cycle. Leave it for NG+ / a second cycle. Wear Infinite, Untarnished, or Vatra on a trophy run. Name TBA (Slayer / Gloomslayer aliases).

Why do enemies come back when I rest in Mortal Shell II?

Resting respawns nearby enemies. Do not sit mid-clear unless you want that pack again. Push when the room is already down and Mother’s Pulse can cover the next door.

Do bag Tarstones gain XP in Mortal Shell II?

No. Only the ten you wear farm kill XP. Hand Franz an Etching Needle, then etch the equipped set. Hoarding every drop does not raise the ten-equip cap.

What should I give Franz every time I return to Marrow Keep?

The Muradean Actuator from Village Outskirts (also called Moradian / Meridian; spelling TBA) to unlock main-weapon enhance, and every Etching Needle you find so Tarstones can rank. Then spend laterite on the melee you swing.

What should I buy from Merrick in Mortal Shell II?

The Forgotten Crossbow map on the first talk, then other weapon maps when you have a next room. When the rare tab is open: one Revered gland and one synaptic vessel. If he stalls, progress another Beacon — the shop is route-gated.

Should I cleanse every Beacon in Mortal Shell II?

Yes, as soon as you can survive the interior. Skipping a corrupted site skips Ova, Glimpses, flask strength, rest, fast travel, and sometimes the gate sitting next to it. Cleanse All Beacons and Collect all Ova both need this habit.

Can I Guard red attacks in Mortal Shell II?

No. Dodge. Community read: reds are unblockable. Untarnished Guard is for uncolored tells. Whether Vatra Harden works on red stays TBA.

Do I need Duality to dual-wield in Mortal Shell II?

You can swing a dual-wield melee without it. Duality is the Combat Tarstone that doubles dual-wield-style attacks (exact multiplier TBA). Skip it on a spear or hammer. Optional — not a trophy lock.

Are Mortal Shell II tips the same as the beginner guide?

No. The beginner guide is Harros → first Seal → first Shell → first cleanse. This page is the mistakes that still wreck a run after that loop exists.
